Death to the Unwary Insect This not-so-small golden orb-weaver was almost on my face when my canoe partner tried putting me right through her web! He did not see the web, and I was looking in a different direction when I turned to face forward and saw that she was at face level just a few feet away. Thankfully for me, I mean the spider, we did not run my head through her home and disturb her. "Trichonephila clavipes" is a species of golden orb-web spider. It lives in the warmer regions of the Americas. The large size and bright colours of the species make it distinctive. The female is much larger than the male.
