  1. Polyporus tuberaster would be unlikely, they are mostly found in Europe and the Americas.

Sorry Alfred, fungi are hard. You need solid visual evidence from multiple angles (top, stem, gills) AND the species has to be known to occur in your geography. And this sometimes is still not enough and you need to smell it or cut it and see what pours out.

These last steps I understand few people do, but the visual comparison and location check has to be done. Without it, almost any ID is a wild guess and likely incorrect.

Trust me, I've been there. I get them wrong all the time, so my request is to do more research before claiming an ID. In my experience, it's best to find a deep community of experts for your geography, for example a Facebook group on Asian fungi or something similar.

    1. Forgot one thing: also take note of what a fungus is growing on (soil, dead wood), this too sometimes helps with identification. Posted 3 years ago
      1. I agree with Ferdy. Fungi are so hard to ID! This photo may show Lentinus sajor-caju, but I am not positive. Posted 3 years ago
        1. Thanks to Ferdy sharing some resources, it does point toward Lentinus sajor-caju Posted 3 years ago, modified 3 years ago
    2. Thanks Ferdy for your guidance. Ya, it is really challenging. Just trying to find closely match photos to try to narrow down its classification is already tough, lest to further into the details until the last detail of its name.
I guess too eager to post something interesting and not taken the time to truly identify it.

      1. No worries, Alfred, and don't let it discourage you. Fungi simply are the hardest of them all. Everybody struggles with them so don't feel bad about it.

Don't let it stop you from posting, it's perfectly OK to post and not know the ID. In the description field you can described what you do know so far.
