Description<br />
The cap of this fungus is broadly funnel-shaped, subcircular, leathery, glossy and smooth with concentric zones of cream, dark brick, dark brown to blackish, margin paler, thin and wavy. The pores is cream, pores tiny and only visible with a hand lens while the stipe is cylindrical, smooth, yellow and central to slightly eccentric. This fungus is a very common wood inhabiting fungus in Malaysia lowland rainforests and can be found throughout the year at FRIM.<br />

Description

  2. Do you remember what the stem looked like, Alfred? To me this looks much more like Coltricia perennis, which is common in Malaysia. Example:

    1. I agree...Microporus xanthopus seems more likely to me, as well. Aside from the distribution issue, Coltricia perennis grows on soil, not wood. Posted 3 years ago

  3. Ferdy, Christine, Thank you for the positive ID on Microporus Xanthopus.
    Ferdy, unfortunately I didn't take a look at the stem. However, I took another picture of another single mushroom just adjacent to this and it is very very similar to the photo in the species column
