Bactris riparia - from boat 2, Sani Lodge, Ecuador

A few more snaps of this species of palm tree, this time taken from a silent canoe. From the discoloration you can tell how the water was much higher before. Indeed, we visited during an exceptionally hot period with the river being very low.

  During this time of day, sunset, quite the opposite. Serene and very still. There's the ever-present crickets in the background but its distant. For the rest there's hardly any sound except incidental ones, like huge catfish coming to the surface of loud parrots flying overhead.
