Orange-crested manakin - closeup 1, Sani Lodge, Ecuador
In the moment, this bird did not come across to me as a manakin, despite our guide (from Manakin tours...what's in a name) insisting it is. It is rare in Ecuador and rarely photographed. A reason may be it being a very still bird that prefers to perch alongside black-water rivers. In other words, you're going to need a boat.
This individual does not show the orange crown, which may lead you to believe it's a female. My birds app, however, mentions that the male crown is often hidden and rarely seen in the field, so this may be a male after all, but I'm unsure.

The orange-crested manakin is a species of bird in the family Pipridae. It is found in Ecuador and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical swampland and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
