Young_Mantled_Howler_Monkey-5940 This young Mantled Howler Monkey was among a group of about 10-12 I found on the last day of my vacation last year in Costa Rica. This little one was quite interested in watching me watch him (generic 'him' since I do not know its gender). The entire group were low in the branches of the trees just above the back road near my hotel. The mantled howler, or golden-mantled howling monkey, is a species of howler monkey, a type of New World monkey, from Central and South America. It is one of the monkey species most often seen and heard in the wild in Central America. It takes its "mantled" name from the long guard hairs on its sides.
