Andean ibis - couple grooming, Antisana Ecological Reserve, Ecuador
Another lucky encounter. This bird is very rare in Ecuador and near threatened in general. Most observations from Ecuador are in this area (eastern high lands) yet still our guide and driver Luis Perez had never seen one in his life. To add to the excitement, it was an upclose meeting with a very cooperative couple.
Some sources consider this to be the Black-faced Ibis, where the Andean Ibis is a subspecies.

The Andean ibis is a species of bird in the family Threskiornithidae. It is found in grassland and fields in western South America. This species was considered a subspecies of the black-faced ibis, and some taxonomic authorities still consider it so.
