Marchantia plicata, Antisana Ecological Reserve, Ecuador
The main goal of our visit to Antisana Ecological Reserve was birding but we would also take quick smartphone snaps of unusual plants, fungi, etc. Basically, everything in the Páramo is unusual, so even the simplest capture may prove interesting.
Manuel (our guide) and I spotted this one simultaneously because it really stands out. We agreed that it was likely some unusual lichen. Now back home I accidentally ran into the species ID and learn it's a liverwort (plant) instead, and a pretty obscure one. It's also the first liverwort I ever photographed, unknowingly in this case.
