Red-bellied Woodpecker This red-bellied woodpecker accidentally flew into my grandparent's sliding glass door. I was able to get to it and help it before the farm cats found it. Once it was feeling better, it flew from my hand to my shoulder and started hopping around my body as if I were a tree and squawking! 1. What a beautiful bird. So glad it made a full recovery, you are so lucky to have such a close encounter with something so lovely. Maybe your grandparents could put stickers on their windows to prevent this hapenning again, I have the same problem! Posted 11 years ago
  2. You love photography and animals...you've come to the right place Travis! Posted 11 years ago

The Red-bellied Woodpecker is a medium-sized woodpecker of the Picidae family. It breeds in southern Canada and the northeastern United States, ranging as far south as Florida and as far west as Texas. Its common name is somewhat misleading, as the most prominent red part of its plumage is on the head; the Red-headed Woodpecker, however, is another species that is a rather close relative but looks quite different.
