Common Mormon butterfly (female)

These butterflies emerge in mid-springs in India, and are pretty tough to capture on camera as they are really swift. Like all butterflies they are shy and feed on honeysuckles that commonly grow in the forest.

Close, but not exactly - this is a female Common Mormon (Papilio polytes) form romulus. The different forms mimic different Red-bodied Swallowtails. This one mimics the Crimson Rose (Pachliopta hector).

The Common Mormon

Papilio polytes is a common species of swallowtail butterfly widely distributed across Asia. This butterfly is known for the mimicry displayed by the numerous forms of its females which mimic inedible red-bodied swallowtails, such as the common rose and the crimson rose.
