  1. Another of São Tomé's extremely rare, critically endangered endemics!
While there are several relative giants on the island (the weaver, the sunbird, the world's largest Geranium, giant land snails, a giant treefrog, etc), this is actually the world's smallest ibis!

    1. "The extremely small population of São Tomé ibises contains only around 50 to 249 individuals."

With an estimate this inaccurate, wow, that's rare.
And congrats again on 4K :)

      1. It's definitely very rare, but I don't think the 50-249 is the actual estimate for that species, it's just one of the criteria for a species being considered critically endangered by the IUCN. Posted 3 years ago
        1. Sorry, I think my remark sounded cynical, but that was not my intention. I basically only wanted to admire how rare it is, but it was poorly worded :) Posted 3 years ago
          1. Aha no worries I didn't think it came across as cynical! Posted 3 years ago

The São Tomé ibis, also known as the dwarf olive ibis, is a critically endangered bird that is endemic to São Tomé off the western coast of Central Africa. Once thought to be a subspecies of the larger olive ibis, it is now classified as a distinct species.
