
Lyre-tailed nightjar, Ecuador
Our driver and guide Luis Perez found this beautiful nightjar under a bridge whilst we were en route back to Quito.
This is the female. The male has absurdly long tail feathers, check it out:

The lyre-tailed nightjar is a species of nightjar in the family Caprimulgidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
