Toucan Barbet, Angel Paz, Ecuador
Uncommon in Ecuador. Originally thought to be a Barbet, but deeper study revealed it is more closely linked to the toucan lineage, hence the family Semnornithidae: Toucan Barbets.
Interesting fact about this bird is cooperative breeding behavior. The dominant breeding pair is helped with raising the young by the non-dominant pairs.

The Toucan Barbet is a distinctive bird found in humid forests growing on the west Andean slopes in north-western Ecuador and south-western Colombia. While it remains fairly common locally, it has declined due to habitat loss and trapping for the cage-bird trade.
