Carthusian Snail (Monacha cartusia) I am particularly happy and excited to be able to finally write this post!

In the UK M. cartusia is considered 'nationally rare'.

As soon as I saw it in my pond one balmy day in June 2021, it struck me as very similar, but somehow different from the Kentish snails (M. cantiana) I already knew populated the garden.

It transpires the two species are very difficult to separate, because of the similarity between adult M. cartusia and juvenile M. cantiana.

However, after consultations between those far more qualified than I, this is now considered likely to be M cartusia and the identification has been accepted.
Carthusian Snail (Monacha cartusia)

I am particularly happy and excited to be able to finally write this post!

In the UK M. cartusia is considered 'nationally rare'.

As soon as I saw it in my pond one balmy day in June 2021, it struck me as very similar, but somehow different from the Kentish snails (M. cantiana) I already knew populated the garden.

It transpires the two species are very difficult to separate, because of the similarity between adult M. cartusia and juvenile M. cantiana.

    1. It was a nice surprise after 7 months.

It was a bit frustrating when I was convinced but i couldn't get anyone else to agree (undestandably).
