This parasite infects organisms afflicted with fleas and lice, including dogs, cats, and human pet-owners, especially children. It occurs worldwide, and is the most common tapeworm of dogs and is also relatively common in cats.<br />

Infections can be asymptomatic, but when symptoms occur, they include: diarrhea, abdominal colic, constipation, rectal itching, and pain due to emerging proglottids through the anal cavity. Yuck.<br />
