Bright Four-spined legionnaire (Chorisop nagatomii)
This is the scarcer of the two Chorisop species to be found in the UK, the other being the Dull Four-spined legionnaire (C. tibialis) and was only recognised as a seperate species in 1979.
It's distinguished by "its more extensively yellow tergites (especially in the female), glossy grreen frons, and clear yellow humeri and posterior calli." (Steven Falk)
Widespread but local, there's evidence of this species expanding its range and it seems to reach its peak season a month or so after its cousin.
In the south, it seems to be associated with young Ash woodland on limestone soils, which might explain its presence in my garden which has several young ash in the wooded area at the far end.
