  1. Stunning, love how the spots are displayed so well. Posted 3 years ago
    1. It's a good example of how lazy I am with photographing specimens. I avoid relaxing them to gain more natural poses, and instead just plop them on some bark ;P. Posted 3 years ago
      1. Well, if its already in the right position, just leave as-is? Posted 3 years ago
        1. Lol, I suppose. But, you know how specimens that are spread like this are super stiff -- they look like they are impersonating Superman flying through the air. So, it can be tricky (for me, at least) to figure out how to shoot them so they look less like Superman. Posted 3 years ago
          1. In case you manage to soften it up, this is an interesting positioning technique. I mean, it's super obvious in hindsight but it was still new to me:

            1. Great video and learned a lot. Love Allan Walls work. I have had several conversations with him and he is usually pretty responsive to questions. He is very good at macro and presenting it in a way that is easy to understand. Spiders and more spiders! Posted 3 years ago
            2. Thanks so much for the video link! It was so interesting. It was new to me as well. I like the thought of relaxing the insects in alcohol rather than in a relaxing chamber. Posted 3 years ago
              1. Yes, but also the pinning technique through paper is interesting. It's a simple idea but solves the problem of a specimen not being able to "stand" on its own feet. Posted 3 years ago
                1. I really liked that part. I'm going to try it. Posted 3 years ago

  4. The yellow dots make it happen so well. Posted 3 years ago
    1. I agree! The spots almost look painted on and are such a nice detail. Posted 3 years ago

      1. I'd read that Christine but it's still very well caught {;¬) Posted 3 years ago

"Aularches miliaris" is a colorful grasshopper belonging to the family Pyrgomorphidae found in South and Southeast Asia. The bright warning colours keep away predators and their defence when disturbed includes the ejection of a toxic foam.
