Scarlet-breasted dacnis - male and female, Rio Silanche Bird Sanctuary, Ecuador
(Fun fact about this photo: I had no idea I was photographing both the male and female in this scene. To a viewfinder, this scene is almost pitch black.)
Subpar photos due to range issues and backlight but a high value target. This bird has a small distribution which is under threat. Within this distribution, it is rare to see. Photographed from the birding tower at Rio Silanche.

The scarlet-breasted dacnis is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Colombia and Ecuador. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.
