All parts of this plant are highly poisonous. If ingested, symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, reduced heart rate, blurred vision, drowsiness, and red skin rashes. Approximately 38 different cardiac glycosides have been found in this species!
My great-grandmother grew this plant for herbal use, lol. When I was a child, I loved the flowers and desperately wanted to pick some, but my father wouldn't let me anywhere near the plants.
