Gorgeted sunangel, Bellavista, Ecuador

A disappointing photo as this bird is beautiful from the front. Unfortunately, it wouldn't cooperate for such a shot. A fair criticism here would be that the photo in itself does not supply conclusive evidence for the species ID, so I need to build the case for it.

That case is the experience of our guide Manuel Espejo. He initially identified it without any doubt as he's seen it many times. I just double-checked and he confirmed. The observation is also supported by the location, just outside the gates of Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, where it is regularly seen.
