Eye to eye with an African Bush Elephant in Tanzania
Elephants for sure are photographed to death. None of that matters though when having an eye-to-eye meeting with one in the wild. You then get to experience how they radiate strength, wisdom and care. Do not make the mistake of testing their friendliness though, as it may turn against you. Sadly, a tourist was fatally injured by a young elephant at this place, only 3 days after this photo was taken. By a young elephant, one very similar to this one. Admire, but keep your distance.

The African bush elephant is the larger of the two species of African elephant. Both it and the African forest elephant have usually been classified as a single species, known simply as the African elephant, but recent evidence has seen the forest elephant classified as a distinct species . Some authorities still consider the currently available evidence as insufficient for splitting African elephants into two species.
