Dance fly

I was convinced that this was a mosquito, but it seems like it's a fly, correct? (and what a funny common name: dance fly :-D)

  1. It's definitely a fly. Mosquitos (midges) tend to have a proboscis, a lengthy mouth part to pierce fruits or flesh. Some examples:

The common name is funny, but know that it is ambiguous. A dance fly is not a singular species, it refers to a family of flies or even multiple families that are all called "dance flies". They are named after their erratic flights.
