Buckley’s Boneyhead (Osteocephalus buckleyi), Loreto, Peru
Buckley’s Boneyhead (Osteocephalus buckleyi) is a small, lichenose treefrog found in the Amazon lowlands of northern and central South America. Likely a complex of species, the relationship of this frog and the similar but larger O. cabrerai bears further investigation. We often encounter these frogs in forest that floods during high water. Boneyheads, also called Laughing Frogs, include many larger frog species and they collectively occur from Andean cloud forests to gallery forests and rainforest. Amazonian wildlife is as diverse as any other assemblage of wildlife on the planet - these are things worth fighting for; now is the time to fight for them. How can you help? Funding is the key issue with every conservation initiative out there. Find one that speaks to you and financially support it. Any amount helps. Go visit one of these places. Nothing teaches biodiversity better than a visit to a tropical forest.
