One of a pair!
This is one of two river otter that I observed this morning. A confession, the photo was taken through our kitchen window. The two otter came up together from the water, rolled around in the thick moss and Shore Pine needles, piled up the moss and needles, both urinated on the piles, returned to the ocean and swam away! I am thinking the urine was used as a territorial marker.

The North American river otter is a semiaquatic mammal endemic to the North American continent found in and along its waterways and coasts. An adult North American river otter can weigh between 5.0 and 14 kg. The river otter is protected and insulated by a thick, water-repellent coat of fur.
