  1. It's true that Olive Baboons are generally a lot more "robust", but not all of them: http://primates.com/baboons/index.html
You can observe the different body shapes looking at a troop: http://www.pbase.com/birdercellist/image/77400002
Yellow Baboons are a lot "blonder" than the one in your photo.

    1. I'm not entirely convinced, as our guide was quite sure of this. Note that the darkness is partly due to the light and post processing of the photo, so not an accurate way to determine the species. A quick generic image search for yellow baboon does not conflict in color with what we see here. Is there a more reliable way to distinguish, for example by shape? Posted 9 years ago
      1. I'm not an expert in primates, and I wasn't there; I'm speaking from experience; I was around yellow baboons for 3 weeks, and in my opinion it definitely doesn't look like one. Have you seen the photos I sent you, of the olive baboons? You can also compare to the ones I posted of yellow baboons.
Were there any others with it? That would make it a lot easier.

The yellow baboon, ''Papio cynocephalus'' is a baboon in the family of old World monkeys. The species epithet literally means "dog-head" in Greek, due to the shape of its muzzle and head.
