Buprestid Beetle Exit Hole
This is a hole made from a buprestid beetle exiting its pupal chamber. The larvae make galleries in the outer part of the sapwood, just under the bark. Prior to pupation, the galleries meander into the sapwood where the larva will create a pupal chamber. Upon exiting the tree, the adult makes a D-shaped exit hole.
Habitat: Hardwood tree; deciduous forest
