  1. How sure are you about this one, Marta?

    I'd like to get this one double-checked because of the rarity. In 2015, it was seen only once. In the last 10 years, all spottings combined (from waarneming.nl, the most populous birding observation site) none have been found below the rivers, this far south.

    That would make this spotting rare within rare, so super rare. Which I hope it is, but I'd like to collect some opinions on it, just to be sure. I'll start with Thibeaud, to see what he thinks, he's better equipped than me.

    1. Indeed, I'm curious as to how you got to that ID, since this is an extremely rare vagrant in Europe? And, as Ferdy says, given the extraordinarily dedicated community of rarity-chasers in the Netherlands, I would expect it to have been reported on waarneming at the time.
      Do you have other photos, by any chance? It's kind of hard to be sure what it is from that angle, but it doesn't look like a paddyfield warbler to me. It looks too chunky and stubby-billed, more finch than warbler-like.

      1. Oh guys I am a dummy for this so if you think it could be another alike species please propose and I will change the ID. I was also doubting. Other ID proposals are welcome :-)
        And the other pics are not that good because it was up at the top of a branch in atall tree but I will add one more for you to see. For waarnemingen in Holland I see this page;
        https://waarneming.nl/species/345/
        but not necessarily in Sint Pietersberg :-)

        1. Thanks for the new photos, they definitely narrow it down!
          I'm still not entirely sure, as small brown European warblers are the bane of my existence. If you don't mind, I'll post them on birdforum, whose experts I turn to whenever I'm stumped. Or you can do it yourself if you're already a member!

          1. You can do it and let me know, many thanks for your help! I am very curious on which warbler can it be :-) Posted 3 years ago
            1. Thanks so much both for the discussion and team work, much appreciated. Posted 3 years ago
              1. Could it be Phylloscopus collybita? all these look alike to me, I cannot tell them apart :-D Posted 3 years ago
                1. Neither can I, I think it requires deeper expertise. If Thibaud struggles, I for sure won't know, so let's wait :) Posted 3 years ago
                  1. The experts at birdforum have spoken! The best bet is Willow warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus)! Posted 3 years ago, modified 3 years ago
                    1. Super! many thanks for your help! Later I will post one that I have as Phylloscopus collybita but I will contact you to see if you can help me with an ID verification via the bird forum. Many thanks for your help, is awesome to have you in JD! :-) Posted 3 years ago
                  2. Can you guys check this one for me too?

The willow warbler is a very common and widespread leaf warbler which breeds throughout northern and temperate Europe and Asia, from Ireland east to the Anadyr River basin in eastern Siberia. It is strongly migratory, with almost all of the population wintering in sub-Saharan Africa.
