European water vole - Arvicola amphibius

We were walking in Doode Bemde one July summer day at the level of the Langerodevijver (a lake) and this path has parallel water canals. We just found this scared to detah little beauty in the middle of the path between the canal and the woods. At first I thought it could be sick because it was not moving much but when I ticlked it witha twig it ran for herl life very quickly and then I could see her tail which was tucked under her body when she was sitting so still. It was a very happy sighting for us :-)
