The roots may be used to brew a tea that is useful in the treatment of diarrhea. An old folk belief holds that women who want to conceive a female baby can increase the chances by making an infusion of the entire coreopsis plant minus the roots to consume.

''Coreopsis grandiflora'' is a perennial plant species of the tickseed genus, ''Coreopsis'', in Asteraceae. The common name is large-flowered tickseed.
