Fungal Mycelium A fungal mycelium is a network of hyphae. It can grow underground, on rotting wood, and in some other moist places. Mycelia have an important role in decomposition and nutrient cycling. The fruiting bodies of fungi (mushrooms) can sprout from a mycelium.<br />
