A lucky encounter This is a mama bear sensing something is not right. I encountered her on my forest walk with my son. She had two cubs and they were scavenging for food. The distance was about 150m, still safe enough. Not a photo I am proud of, but it was my son's first encounter with bears. A great memory! He was upset because it happened too quick and he could snap a photo :)
We made it clear we were around, just by clapping our hands and gently saying "medo medo medo" (tedy ber in Slovenian:)) She and her cubs immediately ran away and disappeared silently in the woods.
This is also my only photo of a bear not taken from a safe hide :) Eurasian brown bear,Geotagged,Slovenia,Ursus arctos arctos Click/tap to enlarge Promoted

The Eurasian brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos) is one of the most common subspecies of the brown bear, and is found in much of Eurasia. It is also known as the European brown bear, common brown bear, common bear, and colloquially by many other names.
