Celery Fruit fly (Euleia heraclei) I featured this hyperactive fly in April 2001 here:
<img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/media.jungledragon.com/images/4367/114425_thumb.JPG?AWSAccessKeyId=05GMT0V3GWVNE7GGM1R2&Expires=1759968010&Signature=XXuDM6jljHGupHVeV5xmRWbi2Ns%3D" width="200" height="164" alt="Celery Fruit fly (Euleia heraclei) This is an absolute tiny picture-wing fruit fly with distinctive markings and intense green eyes.
Just don't mention its name to growers of celery and related plants, due to the damage the larvae can do to crops.
In the commentary to that video I mentioned E heraclei has two colour forms, black as shown at the time and a light brown/red version shown in the photograph above, which is indicative of the summer generation.
This colouring and body detail is quite stunning. Celery Fly,Euleia heraclei,Fall,Geotagged,United Kingdom Click/tap to enlarge
