European Pompano off the coast of Spain
Spending some time working remotely from Spain (rather than Germany) and on a beautiful day when snorkeling on the tiny gravel beach of Playa del Granadella. Although I have been snorkeling in the Mediterranean Sea many times, I had never seen this species before - and so was quite thrilled when I identified it. As you can see, they occur quite close to shore and are easy to see and photograph.
''Trachinotus ovatus'', the pompano, is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Carangidae, the jacks. It has large, strong fins. It is common in the Mediterranean Sea, and in the Atlantic Ocean from the British Isles and Scandinavia, where it is a vagrant, to the Gulf of Guinea and Angola.
