Mediterranean snail

I find it so hard to get a good shot of snails for so many reasons...this particular morning I must have taken 100 shots of different snails and this was one of a couple I think they're good enough...what do you think?

  1. I think the shot is fine, the composition is good and so is the exposure.

But I can relate to some challenges. Focusing on a smooth surface that has no contrast is hard, where manual focusing may be possible. The other challenge is more generic: reflections from wet or smooth surfaces, which can be tolerated, fixed in post processing or avoided with a bigger diffuser, depending on what you want.

    1. I always use manual focus on Macro Photography, but it's very difficult to have the eyes and the shell in focus simultaneously because they're always in different distances of the lens. Other "obstacle" is the different textures of the Snail and it's shell, the shiny shells reflect a lot the flash light...but on the other hand you feel a great sence of gratification when you finally get one great shot of these challenging subjects ;-) Posted one month ago
      1. When the depth of field you need is much larger than you can realistically achieve using the aperture control, a good alternative is to take a step back and then crop back in. You do lose some resolution of course. Posted one month ago
        1. That's a great tip Ferdy, I will try it out, thanks ;-) Posted one month ago

''Theba pisana'', common names white garden snail, sand hill snail, white Italian snail, Mediterranean coastal snail, or simply the Mediterranean snail, is an edible species of medium-sized, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk in the family Helicidae, the typical snails.
