This crab spider is common throughout Australia especially in drier areas. The body length of female to 9mm, male to 7mm. Females and their egg sacs may be found on or under loose bark of trees. The males are sometimes seen wandering. The distinctive pattern on the abdomen helps with identification, but many dark-coloured thomisids are similar. The species name means "of the country" or "of the fields".
