Tachinid Fly (Mintho rufiventris)
Although more common on the continent, Mintho rufiventris is a nationally scarce Tachinid found only in parts of the south east of the UK.
Like many Tachinids it looks like robust, bristly housefly,
The larvae parasite caterpillars of the moth Orthopygia glaucinalis (Double-striped Tabby) and possibly others, which live in decaying plant material such as hay stacks and thatch.
The Double-striped Tabby is also southern based, which makes perfect sense.
Usually associated with farm buildings, it's occasionally found in gardens, as this one was in mine.
