  1. It always amazes me to see plants growing in such conditions. I wonder if growing in low-nutrient soil/harsh conditions makes a plant grow faster or more slowly? Maybe it depends on the species. I imagine succulents would be able to grow more slowly, while other plants might speed things up? Posted 3 years ago
    1. this Ipomea grows on the first line along the shore, where it gets sprays of sea-water, stronger winds and moving sands. so grows very fast at first - it produces very long flexible stems, like long strings on the beach. in almost any point along the stem it can grow roots to try and root itself in the sands, so if the wind blows sand from underneath it at one point - it can root itself in other places. so it moves with the sands.
      each plant has its own strategy, that's for sure. :-)

''Ipomoea imperati'', the beach morning-glory, is a species of flowering plant in the family Convolvulaceae. Like ''Ipomoea pes-caprae'', its seeds disperse by floating in seawater. It has been found on the sandy shores of every continent except Antarctica.
