Twin-spot Centurion (Sargus bipunctatus) This is the largest Soldier fly in the UK , with a wing length of approx.10mm.<br />

The male, (seen here) is narrowly built with a metallic green thorax and metallic bronze abdomen. <br />
<br />
Females are broader built with an extensively reddish underside to the abdomen and a blackish tip bearing blue reflections. <br />
<br />
Both sexes have orange legs and a pair of whitish spots on the frons just above the antennae, which gives them their &#039;Twin-spot&#039; name.<br />
<br />
Compared to other Soldier flies, it has a late flight period between August and November and can sometimes be seen sunbathing on a variety of vegetation.<br />
