Banded Woolly Bear - Pyrrharctia isabella I found this dead woolly bear caterpillar stuck to the top of Daucus carota. It is a really weird spot to find a dead caterpillar, so I am assuming it was infected with a fungus (or something) that compelled it to climb to a high spot to aid in spore dispersal.<br />

  1. This place you're going to (psttt...geotag) seems to have a lot of predatory fungal activity. I wonder why? Moist? Posted 3 years ago

The moth "Pyrrharctia isabella" is known by different common names during its two main life stages. The adult is the Isabella Tiger Moth and the larva is called the Banded Woolly Bear. The larvae of many species of Arctiid moths are called "woolly bears" because of their long, thick, furlike setae.
