Opisthoncus sexmaculatus jumping spider It's a miracle I get any gardening done with all the distractions along the way. Here's a little friend I made yesterday, she's a jumping spider, Opisthoncus sexmaculatus. (Just to give you an idea of how small she is, the flower is one of our Australian Brachyscome daisies, diameter 30 mm).
She was such fun to interact with, came on to my hand and we had a chat (I'm sure my neighbour was shaking his head again). These jumpers are heartwarmingly engaging and inquisitive. Such a sweet girl, so beautiful and I was sad to see her finally disappear in to the vegetation, but hunting she must do. 1. Such an uplifting and crystal clear shot, it perfectly captures your story and memory. I recently also shared this with Claire Hamilton, but if you're into jumping spiders, "Children of Time" is a book I can recommend. Without giving too much away, it's basically mankind versus a highly evolved class of jumping spiders, where you get an intimate look into spider society if it were advanced, and along the way hope that the jumping spiders win :) Posted 3 years ago
1. Mirroring your recommendation, I see it has very high reviews on the Goodreads site I use, Ferdy. Received the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 2016 for Science Fiction. I am intrigued! Have added it to my 'to read' list...thank you very much. Posted 3 years ago
1. Welcome, and should you read and enjoy it, there's a sequel "Children of Ruin". But don't look up that book description as it may give away the end of the first book. Posted 3 years ago
