Those little dots are seeds that have blown onto the wall.
These spiders often get a bad rap in the press, often referred to as 'False Widows'. Unlike Black widows, these spiders are relatively harmless, although will give a nasty bite if provoked. The bite is only dangerous if the bite area becomes infected, rather like any spider bite.
