Yellow Garden Spider - Argiope aurantia I think I startled this beautiful spider when I was hiking this morning. It &quot;flew&quot; through the air in front of me with silk trailing behing it and landed on a tree trunk. I think I must have bumped her web.<br />

Yellow Garden Spider - Argiope aurantia

I think I startled this beautiful spider when I was hiking this morning. It "flew" through the air in front of me with silk trailing behing it and landed on a tree trunk. I think I must have bumped her web.

The spider species "Argiope aurantia" is is common to the contiguous United States, Hawaii, southern Canada, Mexico, and Central America. They have distinctive yellow and black markings on their abdomens and a mostly white cephalothorax.
