Altica lythri (flea beetle) - closeup, Heeswijk-Dinther, Netherlands Tentative species ID, but reasonably sure. Reference: <br />

This is the second flea beetle new to me from the same session:<br />

It&#039;s on a thistle leaf here. Whilst not really a flea, it&#039;s a Flea Beetle (Tribe Alticini). These beetles typically have highly developed thighs in their hind legs, allowing them to leap away when needed.<br />

From this photo, you can clearly see the well developed thighs on the hind legs, allowing them to leap away. Size reference:<br />

''Altica lythri'' is a species of flea beetle from the leaf beetle family, that is common in Asia, Europe, and North Africa, including Israel. The beetles size is 5 mm, and their colour is blue with black and green. They present an ovipositor during oviposition.
