
Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana) at Arusha National Park, Tanzania
Sausage trees have very large fruits weighing several kilos each. It is a common food for many mammals, therefore you will find most of these trees to be robbed of fruit. Note that the fresh fruit (unprepared) is poisonous to humans.

''Kigelia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae. The genus comprises only one species, ''Kigelia africana'', which occurs throughout tropical Africa from Eritrea and Chad south to northern South Africa, and west to Senegal and Namibia.
