    1. The leaves of H. annuus is very different from other Helianthus species which are usually long and narrow. I've got another one to post once (or if) I can figure out what species it is. It is a perennial with long narrow leaves that are folded. I just need to make a quick stop along the highway this weekend. Posted 3 years ago
      1. That's a great insight, as I know species in this genus have often been confused with each other based on just the flower head alone. Posted 3 years ago

"Helianthus annuus", the common sunflower, is a large annual forb of the genus "Helianthus" grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits. This sunflower species is also used as wild bird food, as livestock forage, in some industrial applications, and as an ornamental in domestic gardens.
