  1. Coenosia tigrina? The genus Helina also has some similar flies, but they are mostly out of range for you, I think. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Phaonia sp. is also kinda similar, but not as close as Coenosia. Posted 4 years ago
      1. I will definitely look into all of those - It got way too late last night to get anywhere beyond house fly for me :} Posted 4 years ago
        1. Great! I can relate ;P. Posted 4 years ago
    2. It looks like there's at least one Helina, Helina keremeosa, found in this general vicinity (at least it's in Burnaby BC, which is less than 150 miles north) - but I'm inclined to think that you are correct with Coenosia tigrina. I have more photos that I believe are the same species, though it is a different individual, the wings have no visible spots. The leg description fits to a T- I can see the pair of bristles on the hind tibia in other photos and the tips of the mid and hind femora are definitely red. If they hunt other flies they were in a good spot - tons of little fruit flies around the blackberries right now. (ha... and apparently they are around here, photographed one just a couple of weeks ago) Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
