Blue-throated toucanet - Aulacorhynchus caeruleogularis In San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica.<br />
It was very close to a nest of Acorn Woodpecker (Melanerpes formicivorus). Our guide explained us that they take chicks from them to feed their own offspring. Soon after many woodpeckers showed up and they drove the toucanet away from their nest. 1. That's wonderful. It's a small crime that you kept it from us for 7 years, but I'm in a forgiving mood, and it was worth the wait ;)

PS: apparently the latest consensus in the birding community is that this is Aulacorhynchus prasinus caeruleogularis, so a sub species. I transformed the species record to reflect that. Will still count as a species intro.

    1. Haha! I was not even aware I had some but I am happy I have found more species :-)
No problem for the species name change, whatever is the most correct is fine by me.

The blue-throated toucanet is a near-passerine bird living in the mountain forests of Costa Rica, Panama and far northwestern Colombia. Most authorities continue to consider it a subspecies of the emerald toucanet.
