
White Turtlehead - Chelone glabra
Smooth plant with white, tubular, two-lipped flowers that resemble turtle heads. The flowers are arranged in tight, terminal clusters.
This plant contains a bitter resin with glycosides. There are numerous insect species that feed on the plant, and they accumulate the plant's bitter compounds, which deters predation.
Habitat: Mesic, mixed forest
