Tachnid fly - Gymnosoma rotundatum
Another Tachnid fly (see my previous post, 'Phania funesta') and one which gives a hint of the wide variety of sizes, shapes and colours of Tachnid flies.
The word Gymnosoma, the name of the genus to which this fly belongs, translates as 'naked body', referring to the relative lack of hairy on the body compared to most Tachnids.
A more obvious association, and common name is 'Ladybird fly'.
