  2. Ha ha, I just love its name! I don't know if you are aware but in the UK 'wombat' is a slightly derogatory term for someone who does something a bit stupid. A 'hairy nosed wombat' just adds to the humour! Posted 6 years ago

The southern hairy-nosed wombat is one of three species of wombats. It is found in scattered areas of semiarid scrub and mallee from the eastern Nullarbor Plain to the New South Wales border area. It is the smallest of all three wombat species. The young often do not survive dry seasons. It is the state animal of South Australia.
